Transcription - Idea 1 - Dante's Inferno

After speaking to Bob, an idea was conjured up regarding a Biblical verse.

Luke 12: 47-48,"That servant who knows his master's will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows. But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."

upon research, this text in the Gospel of Luke insinuates that punishment in hell varies form person to person, and the severity of the punishment differs according to why that soul has earned a place in the underworld.

Now the King James Bible, re-written several times is still extremely sketchy on what hell actually looks like, and because of this, I decided to look at the poem 'Divine Comedy'.

The 14th century poem written by Dante Alighieri, narrates his journey/decent into Hell. 'Inferno' (Italian for Hell) refers to the first part of the poem where in which Alighieri describes in great detail the 9 circles of Hell.

Without going into masses of detail, each circle of hell holds different punishments for different sinners E.g. the 3rd circle of hell is a circle of punishment for those guilty of gluttony. The circle is guarded by the three headed hound 'Cerberus' and those in the circle are trapped in a cesspit of excrement and are rained down on by shards of ice, all the while are unaware of anybody else in the circle with them...for eternity.

Now, I think even before starting this, perhaps modelling all 9 circles of hell and rigging a camera to go through every corner of each of them could actually be less effective than modelling a few (or even just the one? someone help me here) in greater detail.

It's still early days, and I have a bunch of ideas that still need more thought before I can even post them, but I've thought a lot about this. Still, I want to put some more ideas up and see what everyone thinks.
