After a lot of trial and error, me and Alan both agreed that choosing a path to go down more clearly is the way to go. With that being said, I will be using the Etching shader to me given by Alan, and making my piece a living Medieval etching.

That means that this final painting of the collage I made will probably not be used now, but since it took so long, and was part of my creative development, I decided to put it up here anyway.

Anyway, From this angle (the Final shot - or close to what it will feature with regards to the big rocks) the rocks look perfect when talking about perspective and thirds. They do differ slightly from the collage I used to model them on.

However as you can see from this angle, The rocks don't actually take up much space. The scene itself may need to be scaled up when importing other models (those with rigs etc.) although for the moment it looks ok.
I still used the create polygon tool and then joined up all the edges (time consuming to say the least) to create the outline for the rocks.
I know they look flat at the moment, but I plan to go in with my tablet and the sculpt tool and see what I can do. If anyone has any suggestions on a better method please let me know.
Sculpt tool might just make everything look lumpy. Last year I modeled a cliff face:

Which was done mostly with the Split Polygon, and when I finished I quickly went over it with the Sculpt Poly tool.
Yeah, it's quite tedious but the results are much nicer.
When you say it was done with the split polygon tool...?
ReplyDeletejust pulling out vertices?
thanks Tom
Yeah, I used the split poly tool to create the shape I wanted, and then moved the vertices about. Obviously you'll need to find a way to turn the new shapes to four sided ones but you've got a good base to work with.
ReplyDeleteJon Stewart did a similar thing for his cliff faces in Kiiro Blade. In fact, he was the one who taught me!
I think I see what you mean. I'll have a crack at it now - If it destroys me, expect to see me before you in tears tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThanks again, will get to it
