Sidekick Turnarounds Finished

Sidekick Deputy Freddie, shown in turnaround form.
Badge, hat and neck buckle props included.
Thoughts or suggestions here please! :)
EDIT: compressing the image file has severely reduced the quality, so before i upload a better suited image, please note that line work in particular is far sharper on the higher quality image.

  1. They both look great. I think the sketches on the parchment background look awesome, matches well. He reminds me of Chief Wiggam, maybe the pig-version

  2. Thanks Sam.
I'd like to think that they are as close to completion as I think they are, could be totally naff for all I know though.

    Villain going up today/tomorrow :)

  3. Hi,
not looking too bad. I think the hat may need a look at - cowboy hats have a definite shape to the rim. I think the characters proportions are right, but overall, the costume design feels a little generic. Do you see your two themes dramatically opposed, or is there a way to introduce more arabian nights quality to him? If not, i think you need to make his costume a little more unique in some way. Going well though - I agree with Sam about the Background, works v well with the characters.

  4. yes, in honesty I did tend to throw the hat on without much thought.

his badge and neck buckle will have their own design sheets, which I will add more detail into, as they are quite small.
Although the themes are very opposed, these details much like the ones to be drawn in on my villain will have elements of 'Arabia' in them, such as the star badge etc.

I think perhaps a change of palette could help this guy though?

  5. OK, before I do a complete U-turn what sort of things do you think I could add to him, to still keep the western look, but make him unique?

  6. How about, giving him a polka dot shirt, and stains down his clothes, just to enhance his 'simple' attribute?

  7. Well arabian colours are generally more lively than western, which is usually denim, leather and sandy colours. Arabian (middle eastern) style includes silk sashes , looser fitting pants etc. The trick is not to move too much away from western. So you could just make this guy look a little ridiculous with a bright silk shirt or sash?
